Who we are

Parklane Estates Homeowners Association, Inc., a domestic non-profit corporation, was established in September 2024 to serve an African American neighborhood in Selma, Alabama. The community was founded in 1968 and has included several civil rights participants and local leaders, such as Selma's first African American attorney and Postmaster, a descendant of the Clotilda slave ship from Mobile, Alabama, and original Selma to Montgomery Civil Rights Foot Soldiers. The organization developed within a historical context which is tied to Selma’s involvement in civil rights events, including the "Bloody Sunday" incident at Edmund Pettus Bridge in 1965 and the subsequent Voting Rights Act. In 1968, African American residents in Dallas County purchased land for Parklane Estates, which represented a step towards establishing their community.
